Q: "Tell us a little about yourself." -Laura
A: "I live in Provo close to a large art studio that I share with my photographic artist wife @Hav_House. I always knew I was a "creative" person but I never considered that I could actually make a living from being creative. For that reason I spent all of my education studying boring subjects & steeling my mind to have a boring life. When I was in the middle of Grad School I started painting a lot as a stress relief. Eventually people started to notice & buy my work & I realized for the first time that there was a business trajectory that I could pursue that I didn't hate!" -Havoc
Q: "What causes you to choose an artistic career?" -Laura
A: "For me it really is by default; I've had countless non-artistic jobs in my life & none of them even came close to offering the happiness & freedom I feel as a professional artist. Being self-taught, though, I had to work other jobs until my craft was proficient enough to "officially" step over into a full-time art position." -Havoc
Q: "What brings you the most Joy in your creative process?" -Laura
A: "There's something empowering about being able to bring into this world that which did not exist before. The more beautiful the created item is the more I feel like I'm making a small impact on others that goes beyond my mere existence." -Havoc
Q: "What lessons have you learned through sharing your art with the world?" -Laura
A: "So many! I think one of my first lessons was to learn what I liked to paint that other people also wanted to buy. There were a lot of trial & error paintings that nobody wanted &/or being commissioned to make stuff I didn't want to make." -Havoc
Q: "What do you do to create the best creative environment to do you work in? What are your favorite art supplies?" -Laura
A: "I use to paint on my tiny living room floor if it was below freezing outside. Otherwise I painted on a tiny deck railing for years. With a scrappy environment like that anything is an improvement. I try to have my work space totally organized so that I have piece of mind during a painting that I can hurry & grab an unforeseen tool if needs be. Two of my favorite supplies are trammels & grid paper. Trammels give me large, perfect circles & grid paper helps me try a bunch of different layouts before I commit to canvas." -Havoc
Q: "Do you have any advice for the other artists/makers out there?" -Laura
A: "You can be a world expert at your craft if you do it thousands of times. I also have to remind myself that most of the well-recognized artists today were doing their craft for decades first. Focusing on the long game gives me energy to do my best regardless of how much or little people respond to my work." -Havoc
